In a joint press release, the City of Eugene and White Bird Clinic announced Monday that they will no longer offer any CAHOOTS services in Eugene effective immediately. Previously Whitebird stated that they would be offering reduced services in Eugene. The Clinic says that mobile crisis services will still be operational Springfield from 11 AM to 11 PM.
White Bird states only that they do not have “financial capacity to provide a full-service mobile crisis service in Eugene” as the reason. The City recccomends now that people seeking similar service to what CAHOOTS offered to reach out to the Mobile Crisis Services of Lane County.
“White Bird remains committed to working with its partners and the community to explore all possible solutions to restore and strengthen CAHOOTS for the long term,” says White Bird’s Interim Executive Director Amée Markwardt.
CAHOOTS workers posted a message on their union Instagram page where they talk out about cleaning out their lockers and saying goodbye.
“We are forever indebted to the community members who trusted us, worked alongside us, invited us into their homes and their lives, taught us we are capable of saving lives with our own hands, capable of temporarily transcending suffering with only our words and the connections we built with you,” Workers said.
