Deep Roots: Trainings for forest & climate action Deep Roots: Trainings for forest & climate action
All day
June 1, 2023 – June 4, 2023What
Together, we’ll learn and draw from the lessons and strengths of both the climate justice and forest defense movements, with the goal of building a vibrant direct action movement to protect our communities, forests, and climate. From Thursday to Sunday, we’ll build relationships, learn new skills, and get connected with ongoing campaigns throughout the PNW.
Trainings and workshops include organizing and participating in direct action, creating vibrant protest art, decolonization & forest defense, Know Your Rights, organizing with affinity groups, and more! The camp will be followed by 2-4 regional actions strategically targeted to preserve mature forests and build grassroots power.
Admission is free and meals will be provided
Where
The Deep Roots Training Camp location is TBD in the coming weeks, but because we’re hoping for people from throughout OR and WA, we expect it to be within 3 hours of the OR/WA border, and in or close to some very special forests in the region.
Why
In the PNW, mature and old growth forests are vital for the struggle to preserve a livable climate and livable communities, and are one of the greatest resources we have to limit the impacts of climate change. Ultimately, the health of our forests, climate and communities are inextricably intertwined. In working to bridge the gap between the forest and climate movements, we hope to facilitate conversations around decolonization, economic justice, and how conservation efforts have left out some communities, and been complicit in harm.
How
We are working to make the camp a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for everyone who wants to participate. With that in mind, racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, and other harmful power dynamics will not be tolerated, nor will verbal, physical, and/or sexual assault.
If you would like to attend but have concerns about accessibility, or gear, please Register here where we can collect your information and do what we can to make it work for you. If you have further questions, please contact us at info@deeprootscamp.org.
Who
The camp is organized by individuals and supported by 350.org, 350 Eugene, 350 Portland, 350 Seattle, the Civil Liberties Defense Center, and Rising Tide North America.
Join us June 1st-4th, 2023 for the Deep Roots Action Camp to learn & practice nonviolent direct action skills, connect with others in the forest & climate defense communities, and sleep under the stars!
