CLDC: Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Public Records, and Activists

July 2, 2020

Since FOIA was enacted in 1966, it has served as a valuable tool for journalists, activists, academics, and curious members of the public to learn about the inner workings of the U.S. government. However, in many activist milieus it is still an underutilized means of discovering information that could be helpful to a particular cause or movement.

Making a FOIA request is relatively simple. In fact, most people and organizations make these initial requests online, and without the assistance of an attorney. Our training will inform you about how to navigate the FOIA process and offer important tips to increase your likelihood of getting the information you're looking for.
