Radical Film Night: If a Tree Falls

October 10, 2019

"If a Tree Falls," is about radical environmentalism in the PNW and specifically Eugene during the timber wars of the 1990s. The film does a good job documenting the birth of Earth First as well as the creation of "environmental terrorism" as a legal term that gives much higher sentencing to nonviolent political acts that threaten profit/ property. The film will be followed with a quick Ted Talk about how "environmental terrorist" charges are used to make Supermax Prisons look less racially discriminatory during the Islamophobic war on terror.
