Workers across seven universities authorize strike
After taking strike votes on Monday and Tuesday, SEIU 503 Higher Ed workers voted to authorize a strike. SEIU will be bargaining with management next on Monday, September 23 at Portland State University. If they don’t reach a good deal at this session, then they will strike on September 30, starting at 7 AM. This includes 1500 workers at the University of Oregon and 5000 across the state.
Kaiser Permanente workers set to strike Oct. 14
83,000 Kaiser Permanente workers across the country are set to strike for seven days starting October 14. Locally they are represented by SEIU 49. The last bargaining session is set for September 23 and 24.
Patrician residents give last testimony
Patrician Mobile Home Park residents and allies packed the Springfield City Council Chamber again to speak out against the proposed rezoning of the park. At the the end of the hearing Springfield City Councilors voted to close public hearing and leave the public record only open to property owner that applied for the rezoning. City of Springfield staff will give a report back at the October 7 City Council meeting, where the City Council could make their decision upon rezoning.
